Clients, servers, addresses and ports

A server isn't a special kind of machine. It's any computer running a program that waits for requests and answers them.

The program that asks is the client: an app, a browser, or even another server.

Before a client can ask anything, it has to find the right server among millions, and the right program on it. That takes a name, an address and a port.
